Summer School
SUMMER SCHOOL at
QAFQAZ
20 August – 1 September 2007

Do you want to make the days unforgettable and prolong amazing feelings of lightness and renovation? The recipe is old as the world: go traveling…
So, come to Azerbaijan!
We are very pleased to announce that we are organizing the special summer program regarding the history and the culture of Azerbaijan. If you want to learn more about the Land of Fires - Azerbaijan, then this program is absolutely for you, and we invite you to join this program at Qafqaz University, which should run between 20 August – 1 September 2007.
It means that you will see southern sun and golden sandy beaches, picturesque mountains and blossoming valleys, wild rock rivers and blue lake, plenty of the fruits and green, antiquity and modernity, kind smiles of friends and Caucasian hospitality.
All of this will make your life lighter and merrier.

The university has two dormitory accommodation areas:
The Sumgait dormitory is approximately 20 minutes by road from the university and houses male students. This dormitory has comfortable accommodation, sports facilities and a swimming pool.
The main building on the campus has guest accommodation, which will house
female students in comfortably furnished rooms.
The floors of the bedrooms and corridors in our dormitories and other
guesthouses are carpeted. Therefore, you we ask to observe the tradition of
removing your shoes when you enter the carpeted areas of these places. There are
small lockers at the entrances to the carpeted areas for your outdoor shoes;
slippers provided for you to wear in the carpeted areas.
A full table d’hote meal service is included in the course fee. Breakfast and
dinners are served in the dining hall of the university; lunch is served in a
private guest dinning room.
Course participants should observe the meal times, as set meals are not
available outside these times. All meat served for meals is Halal. Vegetarians
or others with specific food requirements (e.g., Kosher) should notify the
course administrator on arrival.
Meal Times:
Breakfast: 8:30 – 9:15
Lunch: 13:00 – 14:00
Dinner: 18:30 – 19:30
Soft drinks, snacks, fast food and some toiletries and stationery can be
purchased in the dinning hall.

There are a number of guided visits into Baku for sight seeing, shopping and entertainment.
There are still the remains of two First World War battlefields in Baku. We may organize a visit to these areas if we can gain access to them.
Gobustan is a major pre-historic area, which shows rock carvings, which are about 8000 years old. A guided tour will be made of the site. We will also visit the fires of Yanardagh, an area of geographic interest.
Fire worshippers built this temple on an area where they observed fire coming from the ground. The temple is of Indian origin. A guided tour will be made of the site.
This is an interesting area of Azerbaijan and is worthy of visiting for the
beauty of its location and for its historic relevance. In Sheki we will visit
Sheki Han and The first century Christian church in the village of Kish. Guided
tours of both sites will be made.
This is a two-day trip with an overnight stay in a guesthouse in either Gach
or Zagatala.
